Welcome to The Wasteland! This overhaul mod adds in several new items, enemies, POIs, and more! Some of the changes and additions include:
-SPIFSAL System-
Wasteland Uses a progression system similar to vanilla, but with a few changes:
Each player is given 21 SPIFSAL points at the start of the game. These are for core attributes. only.
You are Required Use all 21 points to gear up your character and start playing. Once spent, the black will fade away, and you can play as normal.
Skill points are earned per level as vanilla and are used solely to upgrade perks. Each perk level requires both a skill point and Player level requirement — hover over the lock icon on each perk level to view.
Once all your SPIFSAL points have been used, the only ways to raise an attribute level are by wearing the right clothing items (glasses, bandanas, etc.), finding a rare SPIFSAL book in loot (permanent +1 to the book's attribute), or discovering rare power armor statues (permanent +1 to the book's attribute). You can also get a temporary boost from certain drugs, but watch out for their side effects.
Forgit'n Elixir allows you to respec and refund your 21 SPIFSAL points. It doesn't come cheap, though.
A few changes have been made to the perk trees — some vanilla perks have been reworked or removed entirely. Several new perks have been added, like New Age Cowboy for energy weapon types. Be sure to check the perks tied to each attribute so you know where to spend those SPIFSAL points!
-New Enemies-
Several new enemies have been added to the game, including additional zombies, mutants, and raiders!
A bunch of new zombie models have been added, several with multiple color variants for extra variety. There are normal, feral, and irradiated versions, plus a few unique ones like the Fisherman! There are also some cop and demolitions types, but they're not as obvious as the vanilla ones, so keep your eyes peeled!
The wildlife has also been expanded to include mutant hounds, giant scorpions, and several pesky insects. More additions are coming!
However, zombies are no longer the biggest threat, as several new types of enemies demand your attention. You'll encounter both melee and ranged raiders—hostile groups that attack first and loot later. They claim a few POIs as their own, so never assume any building is safe!
Soldier PMCs are also scouring the area for supplies, and they'll gladly take yours off your hands if they spot you.
Mutants are genetically engineered horrors—easy to spot, but hard to kill. Early on, it's best to avoid most of them at all costs, especially the ranged ones, since they'll tear you apart. Melee variants can be taken down with some planning, but don't underestimate them. There are also rumors of even larger behemoths rarely seen in the wild, which hit like a truck and require heavy firepower to bring down.
There are a few other enemies you might come across, so always keep your eyes peeled!
-New Items-
There are also tons of new items added to the game such as weapons, ammo, foods, medical items and more:
A whole arsenal has been added to the game, ranging from melee weapons and scrap pipe weapons to shotguns and rifles. Loot or craft a 1911, BAR, Vector, SCAR, or combat shotgun, just to name a few. You'll always have several options at nearly every weapon tier.
Melee weapon options have been expanded for all types; swap your bone knife for a cleaver, or trade your club for a rolling pin. Pipe wrenches, batons, and pitchforks are all available. And don't forget the skull-crushing Supa Sledge!
Energy weapons are also available, including both laser and plasma variants ranging from pistols to rifles and beyond. Larger energy weapons like the laser gatling and plasma caster also exist. They follow a similar progression to conventional weapons and have their own series of crafting magazines.
There is a line of heavy weaponry as well, from the harpoon rifle to the Fat Man! These offer superior firepower, but can slow movement at low levels or perks.
A few new explosive weapons are available. Bottlecap mines, Nuka grenades, and M79 launchers will help level the playing field... literally.
You'll also come across a loot-exclusive set of .50 cal weapons. The .500 Magnum, Beo-50, and AS-50 can't be crafted, but they give you a reason to head out and loot.
New ammo types for weapons have been added: 10mm, 5.56, MFC ammo, and Plasma cells. Ballistic ammo also includes HP/AP variants. Energy ammo variants will be coming soon.
With fire spread enabled, you can find a lootable fire extinguisher and its ammo, which is used to refill it. Keep one nearby, especially if your base is made of wood.
Drug items can be looted or crafted. These can be used to temporarily boost certain attributes, but may come with serious side effects. Try not to get addicted.
Extra clothing items that help boost your attributes.
Food has been expanded with several new Wasteland recipes. Butcher mutant hounds, scorpions, or other critters to craft these dishes—whether it's scrambled hunter eggs or deathclaw soufflés.
Power Armor can help keep you in one piece. Loot only — keep an eye out for power armor stations. Power armor uses a frame that you wear like normal armor pieces, and each piece (helmet, chest, etc.) installs into the frame like a cosmetic mod. Currently only visible in third person.
Several weapons have legendary variants, along with a set of power armor. These boast better stats and often unique textures, and may grant additional bonuses or effects.
-Additional POIs-
This mod currently includes a well-rounded mix of custom POIs. Some are repurposed vanilla locations, while others are entirely new.
Trader POIs are no longer invincible. Traders can also be killed.
Mutants have taken over several dilapidated business POIs. Watch out for meatbags and cages.
Raiders and soldiers have taken over several different types of POIs. For now, they don't look much different from normal POIs, so stay alert.
Several custom POIs, from the Nuka Factory to the secret Nav-Tek Research Facility. Some have multiple versions that can change what’s inside. Easter eggs and mini quest lines may exist in some of these, so keep your eyes peeled.
Radiated POIs exist in the world, and are used in Clear Radiation quests. Without either a set of power armor with a rad-resistant mod installed or a full set of nomad armor, these POIs will kill you quickly. Most, but not all, will have yellow warning signs to indicate the danger.
-Gameplay Changes-
While some things are still the same as vanilla, some things aren't. Here are a few noteworthy changes to be aware of:
Crafting magazines no longer affect crafting quality; they now only provide temporary bonuses to their respective items. You earn crafting points with each level-up and can use them in the crafting skills tab to level up those skills.
Almost all items have a schematic that can also unlock them. For items with a quality level, rereading schematics will increase the maximum quality you can craft. However, schematics only unlock up to Q5, so you’ll still need your crafting skill raised to Q2 in order to craft Q6 items.
There are a few new or expanded illnesses. Radiation poisoning is just as deadly as infection. Being exposed to extreme cold or heat for too long can lead to a cold or heatstroke. Take care of yourself.
Critical injuries like concussions or fatigue no longer heal instantly when using meds. Instead, they take a short but random amount of time to recover.
Working versions of workbenches can once again be found in the world.
Weapons and armor are typically repaired using matching parts.
Vehicle crafting has been removed. To obtain a working vehicle, you must either repair wrecks found in the world or trade for one. Gather various parts, including unique components required for each vehicle's repair. Each vehicle has multiple stages before it can be fully upgraded into a working state. An impact driver is needed to upgrade repairable vehicles (use the secondary action to upgrade). Wheels can no longer be crafted—purchase them, loot them, or salvage intact wheels (those with rims, not just tires) found in the world.
Picking up vehicles is disabled, except for bicycles and minibikes. However, carrying either will slow your movement.
Farming has also been overhauled a bit. Seeds now require a nearby water source to be planted in farm plots. So either grab a bucket and bring water to your farm, or build an irrigation system using the new water pipes to channel water where you need it. Water. is Consumed over time, so one bucket won't last forever. Pipes have valves and sprinklers that can be used to water the area. Valves cover a smaller area than sprinklers. Running your water pipes to bedrock will provide an infinite water source.
Workstations, from campfires to chemistry stations, now include a tools slot. These tools are required to craft certain recipes at that station. For example, the vanilla workbench now has slots for a hammer, wire tool, and fractal vise. The hammer and wire tool are used in recipes, while the vise speeds up crafting.
The time/day display has been removed from the UI. To bring it back, you can either find a wristwatch mod or equip a Mip Boy to check the time. There are also functioning clocks in the world, such as those at traders or scattered throughout other POIs. If you want, you can take them back to your base.
This mod applies a death penalty. Each death reduces your max health by 3, lasting 3.5 hours per death. The number of active penalties and the remaining time for the current penalty can be viewed in the Extended Character Stats section.
